Questions About Acura Rdx Mpg

James asks…

Acura RDX gas mileage?

I just bought a new Acura RDX...I've had it for about 3 months now, and I love it. Great handling, accelaration, the Technology Package is ridiculous, so far, I have no complainst except one. The gas mileage. I'm averaging about 17-18 MPG, which is a lot less than the 21-24 MPG it's supposed to be getting. What kind of gas mileage do you guys get on yours? Any tips increasing the fuel efficiency?

admin answers:

That sounds about right. The 21 - 24 mileage is for freeway driving. You will never hit that by driving in stop and go city street/combo highways. Ever. Go on a long road trip on cruise control at 65 miles per hour and you will probably get 24mpg.

Tips to increase fuel efficiency include not running the a/c, keeping your tires properly in flated and buying the proper gasoline.

I get slightly better mpg in my 2004 tl when i buy premium gas. My TL is rated at 18 city/26 highway and 21 combined. I average 23 mpg driving around town and such, but get close to 31mpg on the freeway on long trips.

Sandy asks…

Why does my turbo car have v6 consumption?

I have a 2007 AWD Acura rdx with 2.3L turbo. I'm very happy powerwise, it has lots of torque and I get 1/4mi of about 15s flat with 4000lbs curbweight. This car has more Torque than my 3.2L v6 Audi and I can feel it too. The Audi has More hp and is much Lighter (<500lbs) but delivers only slightly better speed. I have pulled 14.8s 1/4mi. However highway fuel economy is much better on Audi: 28mpg vs 22 on rdx. Both cars are stock.

My question is why the turbo rdx with smaller engine deliver poor MPG? Do turbochargers actually increase consumption?

admin answers:

There's the old saying, nothing's for free.

You know how you are supposed to get performance mufflers and headers and big exhaust pipes to get more power and increase fuel economy? 90% of the time, a turbo is doing the exact opposite.

Whenever the boost gauge is on the vacuum side, all your turbo is doing is loafing along, restricting your exhaust and perhaps even restricting your intake (especially with all the extra plumbing required).

Next is the weight. Even though the engine is smaller and it pulls great, it still has to work harder getting more weight up to speed. It does this with more revs and higher manifold pressure (boost) than your Audi's V6. This makes the average mass airflow into the smaller engine higher, and since fuel must be mixed at 1 part per 15, fuel flow goes up too.

Finally, drag. All other things being equal (speed, air density), drag is dependent on two things. Frontal area, and the shape of the vehicle (coefficient of drag). You didn't say what kind of Audi you have, but given that it is lighter it is probably something like an A6. Smaller frontal area, slipperier shape.

Daniel asks…

What happening to honda?

Whats up with honda, they used to make the best cars, and were my favorite brand, now they just make econo boxes . They used to make the nsx, then intrgra type r, s2000, even acura rsx-s, and acura tl-s, now what, they're all gone!!! Even the new si is crap and looks like a prius, all dorky and ugly, all of hondas and acuras cars are boring and the new crz is considered a sports car? My friend had one and I drove it, its crap!!! No torque at all, my bicycle at the dyno with me on it produces more torque than any honda current"sports car" does.lol the crz is so week, you floor it and it slower than any other car, I bet even a prius can beat it, at least the prius gets 50 mpg and the crz is like 30+, whats with honda? Their cars dont have the fun and soul in them anymore, just ugly looking econo boxes. The 2010 si was the best last honda, and even that wasnt great, no torque, looks ugly inside, and funny outside(like a dorky prius.lol) with its small hood and trunk, its numb steering and no power. Why does a company who had the most powerful and efficient engines, now have slow and week engines when compared with competition, I mean even hyundai, HYUNDAI has more sport in its brand, a genesis coupe that has a 3.8 v6 or a 2.0 turbo, and is supposed to come out with like a 500 hp version next year, thats what the hyundai dealer told me. And the genesis has rwd, brembos, lsd, and a sexy body style(even though it looks like a g35, it still looks nice, honda with its originality has gone to making cars that look like bathroom stalls, although I guess it is original.lol). Why cant honda make a decent car, a rwd or awd, powerful v6 or turbo 4, and make it look nice, and have good performance. Even take the 06 si, put a k23(acura rdx engine, turbo 4) becaue at least that 4 banger has some torque, and make it awd, honda CAN make all wheel drive and HAS a good 4 banger and add all that up and u get a car that can compete with an sti or evo. Why cant they make a decent car? Thx

admin answers:

No, you're wrong.
Honda makes decent cars, but they learned that they don't have to make anything better than "decent" to sell them. They know they can get by on their name alone. However, they nearly got burned by almost bring out a half baked Honda Civic a couple years ago. They delayed the Civic a year just to revamp it and make it more competitive.
So now they are trying to appear a little more aggressive but they know if they get too aggressive they will lose their base customers. What do you get when you don't want to cross that line? The CRX.

Sandra asks…

What kind of car should I get...please all opinions?

I am in the market to buy a new 2008 car within the next 2 weeks. I am looking for the following:
-Safe for my kids (one is 3 and I am pregnant so the other will be a newborn in August)
-following that is ease of access of getting the kids in and out of the car.
-price range is $20,000 to $35,000
-Preferrable a SUV of sometype
-and of course it comes fully loaded (power everthing, cruise control, etc...)

I've looked at the Nissan Rogue, Acura RDX, and Honda CR-V. I absolutely love my Honda that I have now and I swore I would remain with Honda's but I don't really like the way the CR-V looks or any of the Honda's SUV's. What I really, really do love is the Honda Ridgeline but the mpg on that thing is just ridiculous...if the mpg weren't so low on it I wouldn't even ask this question and most likely go for that but it would cost me $80 dollars to fill up my tank and I just can't afford that.

All opinions are welcome, especially those from experience..thxs..

admin answers:

Drive a Honda CR-V

it drives a lot better than it looks.

The 4 cyl is good on mpg but powerful enough when you put your foot in it.

The seats fold forward an flat for tons of room, get the awd and sunroof for fun.

Questions About Acura Tsx 2009 Used

Laura asks…

Can a cold air intake that fits other Acura tsxs be used for the new 2009 acura tsx?

admin answers:

More than likely, but it won't do a single thing for your car regardless.

Go do some research on actual dynos of cold air intakes. NOT the advertiser's dynos.

Bar none, they generally only add around 1 horsepower in the normal driving range. And many cause a loss of torque.

Which ends up with no change in performance, or even a slightly slower vehicle.

Ask yourself if that's what you really want, before you buy this thing.

Thomas asks…

2009 BMW 328i, 2009 Audi A4 2.0, 2009 Acura TSX, 2009 Nissan Maxima, 2009 Infiniti G37, or 2009 Lexus IS350?

Which one of out of those six would you buy? They are around the same price (used) and I'm having a tough time deciding.. I want a reliable car, but I want a car that looks good as well. I think the TSX, IS350, G37, and the Maxima are more reliable, but they don't look as good as an A4 or 328. Which one should I buy? How reliable are the new Audi A4s?

-Thanks

admin answers:

The Maxima is not even a luxury sedan so thats out of the question for me, yes, i admit i am superficial and i do care about what car i drive. If you want something that will state class and success go with the BMW 328i or Infiniti G37. The Lexus IS350 is nice but its over rated, although it gives you more bang for your buck. The 2010 A4 is captivating in the outside "cosmetically", but not so much appealing in the interior. The Infiniti G37 sedan and the BMW are the two top competitors and popular luxury vehicles in this segment. Its all based on preference though. No matter what, you will be cashing in on a $30,000-35,000 car if it is an 09 model, excluding the Maxima which should have not been mentioned within these cars, unless you don't care about the brand of a car. If your considering the Maxima I'm assuming your worried or looking into a vehicle that will be both reliable but economical, if that is the case go with the Maxima. If not, then go with any of the luxury sedans listed below, but be aware they are not cheap to maintain if you have the mind set of paying what you would on a Maxima. In conclusion I think you will be better off with the BMW 328i sedan or the Infiniti G37. You should also look into the Mercedes C-class sedan which prices at the exact same as the Infiniti G37.

Lizzie asks…

I'm deciding between acura TSX and honda accord ex, help me decide.?

Trying to choose between base 2009 acura TSX and 2009 accord EX (not the V6 engine) because I prefer fuel economy. I have test driven both but was confused on which to pick. I love the acura's gadgets, bluetooth, usb, sound system, etc. It's a fun car to drive, agile, somewhat quiet and has better warranty than Honda. Accord on the other hand is very roomy (tons of leg space), more comfortable, has better value but slightly noisy and there is not many cool gadgets. In addition Honda use regular gas unlike acura premium gas.

It's so hard to decide. Normally I'd just use the car for commuting. I drive about 20 miles from/to work so car size won't matter (in this acura wins) but this summer my family is planning a 1500 mile road trip so I think the roomy accord would be nicer to drive. So confused, please help.

admin answers:

Well the Acura is actually the "higher trim" spec of the Accord so to speak. It's also known as the Honda Accord Euro and unfortunately for you the Honda Accord Euro we actually own doesn't have bluetooth. Or USB for that matter. But still it's the much better buy. Just don't be surprised when your rear passengers start complaining about a lack of rear legroom and uncomfortable rear seats.

Will a 6 foot ladder fit in a 2010 Acura TSX?

Have a 2010 Acura TSX sedan, not wagon, was wondering if a 6 foot ladder will fit inside?

George asks…

any idea if acura is going to offer a v6 in the 2012 tsx sport wagon?

admin answers:

The v6 is a $6000 premium. Huge waste of money. Very doubtful. Why would they bother? Its an ugly WAGON, aka family hauler.

Mary asks…

2009 acura tsx?

when will the 2009 tsx come out?
I see the 2009 euro accord has come out.
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/04/geneva-2008-honda-reveals-the-2009-euro-accord-sedan-wagon/

they say the tsx will be 4 inches longer.
think any of that will be back seat room?

they also say the interior will get an upgrade. which it was already nice.

admin answers:

It will come out in fall (probably August).http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/FVDP/Preview/styleId=100701332, I'm sure that some of that extra length will result in more room for the back seat. It's built on the new Accord chassis and they have more leg room in the back, but most of the extra room results in trunk space. Interior upgrades are always a good thing in my book! Hope this helps!

Questions About Acura Parts

James asks…

acura parts?

i have a 99 3.5rl and i need lens for my head lights well i called the dealership and they r almost 450.00 each not the pair but each one . well i was wondering if you guys knew where i can find acura parts that r cheaper than the dealership ive tried calling the junk yards and they dont have acura 3.5 rl parts. can you guys help me thanks

admin answers:

Obviously, you need the headlight assembly... The piece the cheaper bulbs actually insert into or it certainly wouldn't cost so much!

My OEM source of parts is cheaper than your dealer's quote but still higher than I would like to pay for... Check it out:

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=RL&catcgry2=1999&catcgry3=4DR+RL&catcgry4=KA4AT&catcgry5=HEADLIGHT%2B%28%2799-%2703%29&ListAll=All&vinsrch=no

Of course new parts are going to be expensive, especially if bought from an OEM source. Your only other resource is to enlist the services of one or more used part sources. These days, all the wrecking yards subscribe to a parts locator service. This online service lets you type in all the details of the parts you need and then forwards the request to all member wrecking yards. The ones carrying your part put together a quote and email it back to you. Pretty convenient really. I've bought some parts this way and was happy to find it works rather well.

Try starting here:

Good luck!

Linda asks…

What is the cheapest website for high quality honda/acura parts?

I am looking for parts for my acura legend and my honda element.

admin answers:

When you consider that a Honda lasts longer than practically any other car, Honda parts sometimes make the most sense. All my Hondas have lasted more than 300,000 miles and without costing me an arm and a leg. Each time I replaced parts with aftermarket parts, I ended up replacing them again and again. Believe me, I was certainly sorry I bought a remanufactured alternator thinking it would save me money... Sure, it saved me money alright but boy was I glad it came with a lifetime warranty! Three units later and a heated discussion with the shop manager over how it wasn't my car eating alternators and I finally got an alternator that lasted. It just wasn't worth it.

Suspension parts are particularly prone to wear when they aren't Honda parts.

So, if you are prepping a car to sell it, going with aftermarket parts makes sense. If you plan to repair the car to keep for yourself, original Honda parts will serve you better. Here's where I get mine:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Robert asks…

Are factory parts required or will any do my 08 Acura TL?

Yea, I need to replace the air filter and cabin air filter on my 2008 Acura TL 3.2 V6 liter engine. Now I know Acura parts are better but can I install a different brand air filter and cabin air filter, or will not perform the same?

Thanks

admin answers:

Well if it were electrical parts of any kind or eingine/tranmision parts then i would say stick to factory. However air filters are air filter. A little secret you may not know is alot of those air filters are acually made by the same companies that make the ones you would find at auto zone or napa. Now if you can afford it k&n has the best oem replacment filters out thare. But chances are since you are askin gabout non factory parts ure probly on a quest to save some money. But the answer is it dosent relly matter on air filters or cabin filters. Only a very few car manufacturers even make their own filters. Usualy they get purailator or wkm or 3m or wkm. Filters and just put their name on it and charge you more for it. Not always. Toyota makes all their own parts. But honda/acura dose not. Even oil filters arent always made by the oem. Example mopar filters (chrylser/dodge) are made by purilator. You go to advanced auto any but the 4 dollar purilator filter and then go to the dealer and buy the 15 dollar mopar filter. Go home and cut em open. The insides are identicle. Cheap maintnace parts like filters. Are acceptable to cheap out on because the chances are your getting the same product anyways. Maybe a diffrent color. But thats it.

Thomas asks…

Where can I get Cheap Acura Spare Parts for Repairs? Online?

I need to know what resources are available as a do-it-yourselfer to manage and maintain an Acura...I am thinking of getting a used TL or TSX but am concerned that since its a luxury brand the cost of spare parts will be too high.

I know there must be warehouses or online resources or somewhere to get parts and repair guides without getting screwed by the dealer.

I appreciate any ideas...Thanks!

admin answers:

Acura parts are basically Honda (Accord and TSX..very similar) and Acura is probably the most reasonable for spares out of the luxury brands. Stay away from European carmakers if you want reliability and semi-affordable parts (BMW...Mercedes...forget it).

I've found this site pretty useful:

Questions About Acura Tl Type S

Sandra asks…

How much longer will this 2003 Acura TL Type S Last?

I got an Acura 2003 TL Type S for my first car. It has 136k miles on it though. And a new transmission been placed in a week ago.
So how many more miles do you think it will last?
And if it were to break what would go out first?

admin answers:

Another 100k at least

Maria asks…

What is the difference between the Acura TL and the Acura TL Type S? How much more expensive is the TL Type S?

Could I get a used 2007 Acura TL Type S with a reasonable amount of miles for under $25,000?

admin answers:

Yes you can, and the TL type-s is much more powerful and more fun to drive! I've haven't driven one personally, but i drive an rsx type-s and have driven a base model rsx and the difference is so great that i would never drive a base model. Plus, the type-s can come in a 6 speed, and manuals are more fun.

George asks…

Which is car is more fun to drive? Acura TL Type S or BMW 335i?

Which car would be more fun to drive a Acura Type S or a BMW 335i? I want something that handles good as well.

admin answers:

This is a no-brainer.
The BMW handle MUCH better.

Look at the facts:
Twin turbo RWD platform 300+hp
It's a BMW which are probably the best handling cars out of the box.
Do simple mods to it and it will be even funner to drive, its easy to make extra power when you have a turbo car.

The Acura on the other hand, not to hate on anyone here, but it's afwd 300hp car that weights 3500+lbs.... That combination of drivetrain and power will never handle well. Simply will have too much torque steer which is no fun at all. Look at most sports cars..... Either RWD or AWD. Fwd is good for daily commuters.

Daniel asks…

What do you guys think about the Acura TL type-s?

I just purchased a 2008 acura tl type s with 31,000 miles, and im picking it up on monday...I test drove 2 different ones and this car is amazing to me

admin answers:

Like the guy above stated, Acura is like the Japanese Cadillac, Lexus is like the Japanese Mercedes & Infiniti is the Japanese BMW. Personally im not a big fan of Acuras but they are very reliable vehicles nevertheless, styling is subjective but to me they seem more like a "begginers" luxury car.

I dont understand your question.

Lisa asks…

possibly buying an 06 Acura Tl?

There's an 06 Acura TL A-spec for sale that I want really bad. It has 23000 miles on it and the dealer wants 25,998 for it. It's not at an acura dealership. Would it be possible to talk them down to 24k or less? This fall acura is coming out with an all new TL. Will that make the current TL less expensive?

admin answers:

Offer $21,000 and work up from there. Don't expect to get that price but don't ever pay what they ask. It's a buyer's market and that leverage is yours to use.

Reason why you are not finding any performance part because it isn't a performance car. Why would K&N, BBK, AEM build air intakes for a car that isn't meant for speed. Do you see them making air intakes for mini vans? And if you can find one, don't expect much gain.

i have a 94 acura vigor, if i lower it 1.2 inches will i need to change the shocks?

Short answer. No, you dont have to change shocks if you are only goin 1.2 in drop. A camber kit will allow you to adjust the angle of your camber so that your tire will be perpindicular to the road and not wear irregularly.

Paul asks…

What part do I need to replace the fog lights on my Acura 2006 TSX?

I need to replace the entire fog light assembly on my Acura TSX '06. The previous owner has left it with broken lenses and the silver housing has corroded. The ones I see on ebay have the black housing and says it will fit 04-06 TSX. Then I found others that says it will fit 06-08 TSX that look different, without the black housing.

For example:

With Black Housing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-2004-2005-Acura-TSX-OEM-Smoke-Fog-Lights-W-Wiring-/120786875565?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2006%7CModel%3ATSX%7CMake%3AAcura&hash=item1c1f7574ad

Without Black Housing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-08-ACURA-TSX-PAIR-OEM-STYLE-FOG-LIGHTS-LAMPS-RH-LH-/180721867186?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2007%7CModel%3ATSX&hash=item2a13dcd9b2

Does anyone know which part I need exactly? My TSX '06 has the newer front body style than the older 04-05, and I'm also certain I would need to remove the front bumper to replace them.

admin answers:

Hello,

You'll most certainly need new fog light units, OEM part number 33901-SEC-A01 for the right and 33951-SEC-A01 for the left. Additionally, you'll probably also want to replace the fog light bulb while you're at it. The bulb is a 12V 55W unit, OEM part number 33165-S5A-003. Your fog light electrical connector should theoretically be fine, unless you have determined that the cord is frayed.

Hope this helps!

Mary asks…

I have a 1998 acura 3.0 cl 6cyl, the mechanic tells me there is silicone in my oil drain plug, what to do?

I went to get my oil changed and Mr.Lube told me they won't touch my car because my previous mechanic put silicone in my oil drain plug. This was done probably because the threads were worn out. What do I do?
Do I go to a mechanic and get him to re-apply the silicone?
Do I buy a rubber oil drain plug?
I found this and it seems good, but is it what I need (don't know too much about cars):

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Magnetic-Drain-Sump-Oil-Plug-ACURA-RL-CL-TL-RSX-INTEGRA_W0QQitemZ390111664468QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad4779954#ht_1490wt_940

Thanks in advance

admin answers:

If the threads are worn on the oil pan, the new oil plug will do no good. I suggest you take your Acura to your mechanic for an oil change and tell him about the silicone. The quick-lube places are cheap, but they sometimes do more harm than good and usually try to get you to get services you may not need.

Questions About Acura Integra

Sharon asks…

Acura Integra?

I have a '95 Acura Integra LS non v-tec, I need some advice on cheap mods I can begin to put into the engine. I have alrady put cold air into it.

admin answers:

Best cheap mods are: Making sure car is up on maintenace; i.e. Stock type NGK spark plugs and wires ($50), correct timing (slight advance may help a little on the high end)(autozone rents for free), clean fuel filter ($12). Of course timing belt and water pump, and all other non-power adding necessities.

On to the mods:

Since you already have an intake. (make sure it is a good, CLEAN filter)

Highflow catalytic converter (175 installed). Or gutted / race cat (free, but off road use only)

Next, high flow exhaust custom @ muffler shop 2.25 is plenty big for non-turbo cars. ($120-200), of bolt on cat-back ($350-600)

Then, header, small primaries and large collecter variety. These tend to extract the most power ($75-500).

This is a good start. You may consider other things like clutch (250-450) Gripforce.com has 'em for cheap and they are good!

Underdrive / lightened pullies and flywheels too.

Hope it helps,
KC

acura integra?

is acura integra good for used cars? I want to buy a used acura integra thats been ran for 150000km..should I?How long will it last?
is it good for 1st car driver?

admin answers:

They are a mechanically reliable, fuel efficient car. I used to own an 01 Mustang GT, and I actually like my 92 Integra better. They handle like they are on rails. The Integra became the RSX here in the United States (sounds like you are in a different country than I am). It's a good car for a first driver. Just take good care of it and it will last a while.

Mark asks…

Acura integra?

i have an 94 Acura Integra and im trying to find parts for it like body kits fenders hoods those types of things so if any 1 knows any good places on the web Please let me no Thanks!!

admin answers:

Ebay, but watch out for that shipping price. Just do a search on 94 Acura Integra. For body kits, you tend to get what you pay for, try andys autosport or racerwheel.

Mary asks…

Why does the acura integra gsr vtec engine have an inner and outter valve spring for the intake?

Why does the acura integra gsr vtec engine have an inner and outter valve spring for the intake?

Does this have something to do with the vtec component, i.e once a certain rpm is hit, it does somethign different with the intake valves?

admin answers:

A single spring looses coil tension over the life of the engine. Two springs share the stresses and prolong the action of the springs' performance. And yes, they help to prevent "valve floating" at high RPMs.

Questions About Acura Tl Type S Specs

David asks…

acura tl type s a spec 2003?

i might get this car tomorrow for 8000 for sure, is this a good price .

also what are some hits to see if the transmission is good, because i know v6 engine sometimes have problem in that area. they mostly happen around 150 000 km but this one has 126 000km

heres the link
http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-2003-Acura-TL-3-2-TL-TYPE-S-Sedan-W0QQAdIdZ314967119

admin answers:

This car is famous for transmission issues. The best way to determine is to get a thorough inspection. At least check the fluid. If it's never been changed on that vehicle, I would have to asssume you are probably in for some transmission issues.

The car isn't THAT good of a deal. It's a 9 year old car with a way outdated body style and almost 80K miles.

William asks…

Which would win a street race? An Acura TL (not Type S) OR a Dodge Nitro RT?

Just curious, I don't know how to crunch the numbers from the specs on the respective car manufacturers websites.
I almost forgot the TL is an 2006 and the Dodge Nitro RT is obviously brand new.

admin answers:

The TL would win, and by a fair margin. You did not mention if the TL was equipped with an AT, or a MT.

Here are the 'best' 0-60 stock specs on the Acura...

2006 TL AT = 6.4 seconds
2006 TL MT = 5.9 seconds
2006 TL MT w. A-Spec package = 5.7 seconds

I own an '06 TL with an AT, and have researched these specs from various websites.

Though I know very little about the Dodge Nitro RT, what specs I found show it's 0-60 time at 7.4 seconds. That's actually not bad for an SUV.

Since most TLs are of the AT variety & w/o the A-Spec upgrade, it's fair to say that all other things being equal, the TL should be an honest second faster than the Nitro RT. This makes sense because the TL is about 400 lbs lighter, yet while cranking the the same HP as the Dodge, the TL's power curve is flatter, meaning it's making better hp over its range. This is due to its VTEC engine's variable valve timing, it's lift electronic control (i.w., secondary, high lift cam engagement at 4,500 rpm), it's variable volume induction which provides improved low-end output, and its enhanced engine management computer programming...all this stuff to optomize engine performance providing a 'flatter' power output across the range of RPMs.

Also, indeed, the faster the TL goes, the more it 'owns the road'. SUV's are basically jazzed-up truck chassis w. Lousy aerodynamics (poor drag coefficients). The TL has the potential for a substantially higher top end, and it will handle worlds better near its top end over the Dodge too. Add to all that, if you're in the Dodge, hope that you don't have to slow down, or turn the wheel. Handling & braking of the SUV is atrocious compared to a sport sedan...SUV's were made for hauling lots of people & stuff...'soccer mom-mobiles'.

Carol asks…

Anybody have a bad experience with a Cold Air Intake system?

I have an '03 Acura TL Type S. Thinking about getting an Injen CAI system (I think they the only ones that fit that year and specs).

Is supposed to route down to behind front bumper, so I don't foresee any problems.

Anybody have problems with water or debris getting into engine?

admin answers:

Depending from where it picks up, it could be an "warm air intake" stock comes from the fenderwell generallly coldest part of engine compartment, all a cold air intake does is keep air ambient to deliver most possible denser colder air to the intake manifold, and like you said by the front bumper should be ok only problem ive seen in snowey, gravely, muddy conditions backing out some wheel spin debris can hit the filter, app specific,

Linda asks…

Why is my mom's car more powerful than mine?

So sometimes my mom has me drive her car if we go shopping. Her car has more "get-up-and-go" than mine does. I have a 2003 Acura 3.2TL Type S. She has a 2000 Nissan Maxima GXE.

We both have 6-cylinders; mine's a 3.2 (obviously), hers is a 3.0L.

My car has 260 hp; hers has 222.

My weight: 1614kg; hers 1451. I wouldnt think the difference in weight would be that much in respect to acceleration.

Am I totally missing the boat here? Why does hers seem to be so much more powerful than mine?

Specs...
My car:
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2003/acura/tl/type_s_sedan/1662/specifications/index.html
Her car:
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2000/nissan/maxima/gxe_sedan/858/specifications/index.html
Edit:
I use 93 octane gas; she uses 87. My car guy checks all my fluids, filters, brakes, yada yada when I get my oil changed, so I hope he would let me know if my air filter was dirty.

Sorry about the links - I'm not sure why they arent working. I clicked them just now from this page and they worked fine.

admin answers:

Well lots of things here matter, like power to weight ratio, who has well maintained vehicle and definitely engine specs...

Power to weight ratio seems important here. Her car seems lighter, you said its 1451 KG right?

If thats the case she has more bhp per ton, meaning she is faster.

Plus the maxima uses a VQ35 DE, meaning its a fast engine, nissan's best and fastest 6 cylinder engine (except for VR38DETT)

that engine is meant to produce more torques so it would take off much faster at low revvs. But at high revvs it uses max hp. Its the torques that give you mom's car advantage.

Questions About Acura Honda Connection

Location of a 1998 Acura EL/Honda antenna?

Just wondering where the radio antenna is on a 1998 Acura 1.6el? Never owned a honda and im not sure where they hide them.

The radio antenna is built into the rear glass, just above the grid for the defroster.

Laura asks…

Will a Honda accord secondary O2 sensor work for a 2003 Acura RSX Type S?

I have been having some Idling problems with my car recently and think I may have damaged my o2 sensor, but I cannot afford the $200 for an RSX OE one and have been looking at several honda ones, and one for a 2002 accord down-flow or after cat appears to look like the same connection with a much longer cable, and its less than half the price and available locally. Does anyone know if this would fit or cause any problems with my 2003 Acura RSX Type-S? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

admin answers:

Legally you must use the manufacturer's specified OEM replacement part. You cannot substitute emissions control parts unless they are certified by the manufacturer as a suitable replacement.

Accord engines are quite a bit different from Acura engines even though they are both made by Honda. The Acura engines are all higher compression engines with different VTEC profiles and require premium fuel. Even if the Accord sensor physically fits it may not have the same electrical properties as the factory specified unit.

Questions About Acura Tsx Review

Donna asks…

Acura TSX 2009 reviews ?

I am planning to get Acura 2009 soon. Is there any problems down the road? how is the over all performance? Anyone...Any comments? please..

admin answers:

They are a dream to own and drive. Www.thetruthaboutcars.com and www.emunds.com has more..

Lisa asks…

How slow is the Acura TSX?

I was considering buying an Acura TSX but numerous reviews talk about the underwhelming torque (164). Since I'm not old enough to test drive I'd like to hear from some TSX owners and see how the engine performance is.

admin answers:

Posted 0-60 speeds always seem to roam all over the place. That's because there are several variables that impact the results. The following lists various times for the car. Based upon the car's power/weight ratio, the most believable times for the MT version are probably in the mid-7 second range, and the AT version being at least a second slower. In comparison, the stock Gen 6 Accord runs in the high 7's to low 8's with its 200 hp V6...both cars weigh the same.

William asks…

Acura TSX? Should I buy?

Would like to hear some reviews on the Acura TSX. We're thinking of buying one...Have you had any problems with the car? Happy with your buy? Any input appreciated. Thank you in advance!

admin answers:

Ive done my fair share of research...
Currently own a RSX-S and ive been looking to trade in for a TL or TSX...

With the TSX you dont have much to worry about, there arent any 'hidden' problems with the car

Check out consumerguide.com for a full review (and reliablity/repair costs)
Also.. Check out fueleconomy.gov for some mileage information (you will find the TSX to be very good here too)

Its a great car for the price, you cant go wrong

Thomas asks…

How does Audi A4 compare to Acura TSX?

I am considering purchasing a 2008 Audi A4 2.0T CVT. This is the FWD automatic model. According to popular car comparison sources, it is very similar to the Acura TSX 4dr sedan, in term of performance and price, I think. Personally I like the style of Audi better. The car feels less sporty and more luxury than the Acura, and I like that. However, what seriously is holding me back right now is the concern of reliability. Acura is known to be very reliable, while as the Audi (even the models from recent years) has very mixed review for reliability, some of them very bad. I was used to having a Japanese car (97 Accord) and never had to worry about the car breaking down. Is buying an Audi A4 not a good idea? Any sharing of your experience with either A4 or TSX will be helpful! Thank you in advance!
Thanks everyone for your valuable suggestions! You guys have given some of the best advices I've got so far! I do intend to keep the car for a long time, if that's possible. I don't really like Acura for the same reason as Jay mentioned, although it's probably a great car!

So now I am looking into the Lexus IS250. Reliability is not a issue. For a couple grands extra, I get a peace of mind, although the style may not be my top choice. But not sure how the car IS250 "feels", never drove a RWD before myself. Any comparison there?

Still thinking if I can get away with an Audi A4. Why so few of them around? I counted 3 Audi in 4 days.

admin answers:

I was just asked this question a couple days ago and I feel that both are good choices but I would go with the Audi.

Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:
Style (This car has the best styling among luxury cars, there is no cheap plastic feel in the car)
Luxury
Safety (Even without its quattro AWD, the Audi A4 platform was rated the highest by the governement among the luxury sedans)
Uniqueness (How many more Acuras you see everyday vs an Audi?)

Cons:
Reliability (Depends on how long you're keeping your car)
Price
Gas prices

I own an Audi S4 2007, and I have friends who drive Acura TLs as well as the TSX. Both of these cars will give you around 200 HP. In terms of luxury and and style Audi will beat the Acura hands down. When you get into an Audi you'll always notice a difference in the quality of the seats, and the styling. The closest thing I've come to experience this was when I was in my friends new Lexus IS Series.

While the guys above me do have a point about the reliability of Audis. I think you deserve a clarification.

YES Audis are expensive to maintain especially since it is a German car. However, the Audi will only experience problems towards the 70,000 mile mark. From the people I've met, (who all take good care of their cars) their Audis (from TTs to A4s and S4s) have all been reliable until the 70,000 mile mark.

If you want, think of the Audi A4 as the perfect balance between safety, performance, and style. It's not going to be too fast, but it will still be a joy to drive, I know I still do :)

In short go with the Audi A4, and if that's not your taste, I'd also recommend the Audi TT which alot of my female friends adore.

Questions About Acura Cars 2012

Susan asks…

2012 Acura TL oil change?

hi acura car owners

for a 2012 Acura TL oil change, after I change the oil and filter, how can I reset the onboard computer system to tell it that the oil is changed ? Then the "need oil change flag" message will be gone.

admin answers:

Using the buttons on the steering column, scroll down to where it says oil life xx%. Press and hold the reset button. After a few seconds, the display will start blinking. Release the reset button and push it again, the oil life will reset to 100%.

George asks…

Would a 2012 Acura TL be a good first car?

I will be receiving my first car on my 18th birthday in November of 2013 and I'm wondering what some people's opinions, suggestions, etc. would be. For suggestions, it would need to be under $20,000 by late 2013. Thanks in advance!

admin answers:

As a mechanic at an Acura dealership, I would advise against it. For starters, you are not going to get a 2012 TL for under $30k muchless $20k. Second, there is a lot of maintenance involved with a TL. LOFs are due about every 6,000 which varies based on how you drive it. Every 12-18,000, the rear differential fluid needs to be replaced ($90). Depending on what the conditions are, the air and pollen filters need to be replaced every 10-30,000 miles ($80). This is just a sampling of the services, there are a lot more. Then on top of that, all Acura vehicles take premium fuel which on average is 30 cents more a gallon than unleaded. So my recommendation is to go with something more economical.

David asks…

Should I trade my 2006 Acura TSX in for 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?

There is nothing wrong with my Acura..I just fell in love with this Jeep. I have about 65,000 miles on it. I love my car but I really want that damn Jeep. I don't know much about cars, but I don't go off roading(i know thats what this Jeep is made for)..Is it a bad idea?

admin answers:

Why not rent one for a week and see if its what you will like.

Mandy asks…

Which car should I buy? The choices are Infiniti M class 2012 or Acura RL 2011?

Thanks !

admin answers:

Wow, is this actually a serious question? Why in the world would anyone be on the fence between an Acura RL and an Infiniti M37 sedan. The RL has been dead in this market for a very long time. The RL is a very poor seller, its been so neglected from the Luxury market that Acura is pulling it out of their lineup by 2013. Don't get me wrong Acura is a great reliable luxury manufacturer but an Acura comes no where near on par with an Infiniti nor a Lexus in the luxury market. They have yet to offer a coupe, convertible, performance vehicle or a Full size SUV, the brand alone is behind by ages, not to mention styling among the Acura brand has been more often an issue rather then controversial. The Infiniti M37 sedan rivals vehicles like the Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Lexus GS and Mercedes E-class. Not to mention the Infiniti M-class was ranked the "#1 Mid sized luxury sedan for 2011" according the ALG awards. The Acura RL in terms of refinement and technology comes no where near the offerings of an Infiniti M37. The Infiniti M37 also composes a class leading 330 Horsepower engine while the Acura RL composes a 300 HP engine. Plain and simple, the Infiniti M37 is worlds apart from an Acura RL, size is the only thing they have in common. However if your looking to spend less money on a luxury sedan I would recommend the Acura RL which tends to stay under $57,000 when loaded, the Infiniti M-class is a great car but quite frankly like many vehicle's in its class it can easily inflate to a price well over $70,000 when loaded so on a number scale you'll probably get more bang for your buck in the Acura RL.
