Questions About Acura Aftermarket Parts

Donna asks…

2000 acura RL aftermarket parts?

I wanted to know of any good places for a turbo or some aftermarket headlights and taillights for my newly bought 2000 acura RL. And yes I know the RL is not supported strong in the aftermarket.

William asks…

Aftermarket parts what to buy first?

i have an acura integra gsr, what aftermarket parts should i purchase first?
pls dont flame because i have a ricer pls and thx
also its performance only please!

admin answers:

Teggys are awesome!
You want visual mods or performance?
If you want some cheapish performance you can get some basic bolt-ons like intake/header/exhaust. Any more performance you'll probably be looking at swapping or turboing, or if you don't have the money you can run nitrous(people give a lot of shit with nitrous, but really as long as you run low shots its not gonna break, its cheap, fun performance)

alright sorry for the visual mod stuff.. But yeah those are pretty much all i can think of atm that would give you noticable gains in performance, you can also get a tune(wouldn't reccomend doing this though until after you get other mods done, its relatively exensive and not worth it if you don't have much done to it, but if you get a turbo/nitrous/swap you definitely should get one)

stripping weight is also good for performance, you can do some obvious things like spare tire and such, and also can do lightweight pullys, rip out the back seats(personally don't like doing this, way too inconvenient unless you plan on having it as your race car)

try checking out this forum for a lot of info on your teggy

Mark asks…

1992 Acura Vigor aftermarket tail lights and head lights?

This car is somewhat obscure and I haven't really found many aftermarket parts for it. Any ideas of where I could look?

admin answers:

I have a 1994 Acura vigor its hard to get any parts for it because they didn't make alot of vigors. So there was no need to make lots of parts. I still have not seen any aftermarket tail lights or head lights but i did get the JDM Honda Acura Vigor SiR CC2 Black Housing Headlights from JAP. Here this is how they look like. And i got a weapon r Air intake.

Jenny asks…

Aftermarket Parts for 1991 Honda Legend?

I've been all over the internet and can't find a single website offering aftermarket parts for Honda Legends (RHD Japanese version of an Acura Legend). Specifically, I'm looking for a billet grille, headlights and tail lights.

Does anyone know of a website that sells these items? Anyone who owns a Honda Legend?

Please help. Thanks.

admin answers:

You most likely will not find anything like this in the United States for 2 reasons. First, the Honda Legend was never sold here. It would be senseless for any aftermarket vendor to carry parts for a car that was never sold here. Who would buy them? They would have money tied up in inventory that they can never sell.

Also, this model is getting old. It is not like this car would ever be considered collectible in the U.S. Like a 60's Camaro SS or Mustang Mach 1. Since this model is getting old it does not make sense to stock pats for it. Again, who other than you is going to buy them Again, it does not make sense to tie up money in inventory tt they won't sell.

Questions About Acura Parts And Accessories

Sharon asks…

Performance parts 1997 Acura 1.6EL.?

Ive been looking for performance parts and any other kind of parts for my 97' el but i cant find a site were i can order anything. all the sites i know dont have 97 1.6el parts wen i put my car in the search. Do you know a site i can order from for my acura. Loooking for performace parts and accessories. taillight, headlights etc..people told me i can put 1998 civic and its the same thing as the el. is that true ? they look alike but are the parts the same ?? thank you

admin answers:

Reason why you are not finding any performance part because it isn't a performance car. Why would K&N, BBK, AEM build air intakes for a car that isn't meant for speed. Do you see them making air intakes for mini vans? And if you can find one, don't expect much gain.

Sandra asks…

i have a 94 acura vigor, if i lower it 1.2 inches will i need to change the shocks?

and do the springs go over the shock/struts? and also what does a camber kit do. i found a set of shocks/struts for my car but it seem to only have 2 struts. does it mean my car only has 2 struts.

here is the link

and the lowering sprins

admin answers:

Short answer. No, you dont have to change shocks if you are only goin 1.2 in drop. A camber kit will allow you to adjust the angle of your camber so that your tire will be perpindicular to the road and not wear irregularly.

Paul asks…

What part do I need to replace the fog lights on my Acura 2006 TSX?

I need to replace the entire fog light assembly on my Acura TSX '06. The previous owner has left it with broken lenses and the silver housing has corroded. The ones I see on ebay have the black housing and says it will fit 04-06 TSX. Then I found others that says it will fit 06-08 TSX that look different, without the black housing.

For example:

With Black Housing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-2004-2005-Acura-TSX-OEM-Smoke-Fog-Lights-W-Wiring-/120786875565?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2006%7CModel%3ATSX%7CMake%3AAcura&hash=item1c1f7574ad

Without Black Housing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-08-ACURA-TSX-PAIR-OEM-STYLE-FOG-LIGHTS-LAMPS-RH-LH-/180721867186?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2007%7CModel%3ATSX&hash=item2a13dcd9b2

Does anyone know which part I need exactly? My TSX '06 has the newer front body style than the older 04-05, and I'm also certain I would need to remove the front bumper to replace them.

admin answers:

Hello,

You'll most certainly need new fog light units, OEM part number 33901-SEC-A01 for the right and 33951-SEC-A01 for the left. Additionally, you'll probably also want to replace the fog light bulb while you're at it. The bulb is a 12V 55W unit, OEM part number 33165-S5A-003. Your fog light electrical connector should theoretically be fine, unless you have determined that the cord is frayed.

Hope this helps!

Mary asks…

I have a 1998 acura 3.0 cl 6cyl, the mechanic tells me there is silicone in my oil drain plug, what to do?

I went to get my oil changed and Mr.Lube told me they won't touch my car because my previous mechanic put silicone in my oil drain plug. This was done probably because the threads were worn out. What do I do?
Do I go to a mechanic and get him to re-apply the silicone?
Do I buy a rubber oil drain plug?
I found this and it seems good, but is it what I need (don't know too much about cars):

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Magnetic-Drain-Sump-Oil-Plug-ACURA-RL-CL-TL-RSX-INTEGRA_W0QQitemZ390111664468QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad4779954#ht_1490wt_940

Thanks in advance

admin answers:

If the threads are worn on the oil pan, the new oil plug will do no good. I suggest you take your Acura to your mechanic for an oil change and tell him about the silicone. The quick-lube places are cheap, but they sometimes do more harm than good and usually try to get you to get services you may not need.

Questions About Acura Parts Source

Paul asks…

Anyone know of a 5-speed Acura Vigor that's being parted out???

Hello again, and thanks to all who took the time to offer advice on my prior question regarding low cost quaility clutch parts for the above mentioned vehicle.

Unfortunately, there are other parts needed for this car and I'm finding out that a) new parts are extremely expensive and b) used parts are expensive AND hard to find!!! So the idea that I could possibly attain different parts from the same source seems like a good idea for time management, possible discounts on a multi-part order, and savings on shipping costs.
Soooo, the question is:
Does anyone know of an Acura Vigor(any year) that is,for whatever reason, being parted out???

If so, please let me know how I could contact the seller with a parts request list or the cost of the whole vehicle, depending upon its location.

Thanks to all, and Happy New Year!!!

Mel
(soon to be: "Vigorous1" when I finally get this bucket rollin'!!!LOL!!!)

admin answers:

Contact a foreign only salvage yard in your area about your needs and if the don't have everything or nothing have them place your needs on the locater network as that asks all the other salvage yards in the network if they have what you need.

Chris asks…

Does anyone know of an aftermarket "adjustable" hydraulic clutch slave cylinder for a Honda/Acura?

I have an Acura RSX Type-S, I love that car as it is so fun to drive and the with a few tweaks it has some really nice performance. But with the Honda/Acura clutch it is hydraulic and though you can adjust the clutch petal height, I do not believe you cannot adjust where the clutch petal engages the clutch. I had a 1976 Datsun 280Z and that car had the adjustable slave cylinder, I was able to tune where the clutch engaged to exactly where I liked; where the clutch starts to engage 1-1.5 inches from the floor and the clutch height is still at the normal stock position. I was hoping someone out there has either a solution using the stock parts or has a source for an aftermarket slave cylinder with an adjustable ramrod. I am a tall guy so when the clutch engages so close to the top of the petal travel it is not as enjoyable to drive. Interestingly enough, I bought the car new and it now has 110000 miles on it. I had to replace the clutch at 89,000 - teaching two kids to learn how to drive clutch on this car does tend to shorten the clutch life... But since the new clutch has been installed, the position where the clutch engages is higher than the original.

admin answers:

If Club RSX doesn't hhave it, it doesn't exist.

Lizzie asks…

I have a LEAK coming from underneath my car! What do I need to replace?

Hey I bought this 1988 Acura Legend. When I bought it, it had absolutely NO leaks or anything coming from anywhere. It started to leak just a little when I hit the dip pretty hard and possibly scrapped something underneath my car? Where exactly could the leaking be coming from and what would be the appropriate part to fix this issue? I would like to find the source of the problem ASAP so I can fix it before it gets worst! Ne advice would be helpful! Thank You :)

admin answers:

Get a piece of flat cardboard to lay under the car where the leak is coming from. This will give you an idea of what is leaking. You gotta know what's leaking and from where under the car to determine what it is.

Ruth asks…

Need car buying advice & options. 250+ HP comfortable and quick. 2011 optima SX?

I've asked this question but didn't get to extend it.
I currently own a 2003 Mercedes Benz, but don't want to deal with constant repairs. Especially out of pocket. It has 100k miles. I like the way it rides (steering, pedals, seat height) but its acceleration at times leaves more to be desired. I was unable to restore the interior through regular detailing and vacuuming and such since I purchased it used at 45k miles.

Right know I'm looking at the Kia optima 2011 SX, 275HP, with the premium package since I really would like the same type of roof I have with the benz. I don't like to be w/o sun/moon roof. It doesn't have to open.

I would not like to pay over $350 per month and have about $12K to put down w/ no trade-in. Are there any other choices I should consider? I would like the car to be in a New condition w/ no more than 25k miles, easy/smooth steering and be quick.

Must haves: Leather (not hard)
HID/Xenon (the ones that turns when you turn is a plus)
Automatic headlamps (if its on 24/7 is cool too, as long as when the car is off it goes off)
Audio upgrade-ability (Mercedes was awful in this department) I'd like to put my own navigation, amps, speakers.
Audio upgrade-ability ( Ability to change alternator and batteries if necessary )
Warranty for at least 4 years. I don't know how many miles I'll drive but I think it will be less than 8k/yr
Auto windows up/down (or hackable, I can mess with circuits and some 12v stuff)
Nice to have:
Cold/Hot weather package
Folding rear for more trunk.
good turning radius ( I don't know the technical turn but to make the tightest turn possible. I like to stay in my lane when I turn, especially for U-turns)
Aesthetically pleasing, I know this is subjective. But I prefer curves over triangles. The whole honda/acura design I don't like. I like G37, nissan maxima, bmw3 ( 2 door version) , mercedes CL, CLS, Just to have an idea of my design taste.

I have trouble expressing ideas. So if the question isn't understood is what cars should I consider and how they fair vs the kia SX in whatever ways you would like to compare them. Value**, features, performance, tech, etc..

I am unsatisfied with the prior responses:
Answerer 1
Now you might be looking for something newer but consider a 97-2001 audi S4. It has 250 hp from its bi turbo v6 and has AWD. It comes loaded with just about all the features you mentioned ( leather, xenon, folding rear, cold/hot weather pack, auto windows. You can get one for $5,000-$15,000 in good condition.

Answerer 2
Consider a Subaru WRX. For under $30k you have a car with moon-roof, 265 hp, AWD and a 0-60 time of 5.2 sec. This car will beat any BMW, Audi, Mercedes, or Volkswagen in that price range guaranteed. Subaru's are also one of the easiest cars to upgrade and they come in hatchback or sedan versions.
Source(s):
I own one

The first one is a car older than the one I currently own, also german and don't have time to search for lower part prices. I forgot to mention I don't have any income since I'm a student and don't want/need unexpected expenses. If I can make my care brand new again inside and out I'd keep it , but the poor thing has 100k miles, and the inside well at 45k till now I couldn't restore so that's out of the question. Besides old leather != new leather.

The second response is better, but I really don't like hatchbacks and I NEED an AUTOmatic transmission. I'm also not really feeling the styling on the WRX. I'm not into racing nor upgrading the car for that purpose. I'd like quickness for overtaking in highways where you have to accelerate quickly to get out of a jam, and in the streets to get up to the limit quickly.

Don't know if I mentioned it before but I also like the exterior styling of the 335i coupe, not sedan, and the A4 3.2 (Though I can't find any for less than 30K)

I'd also like good resale value which is very poor on kias. Sometimes they have 4k cashback which can help in that department. I'm sorry if this question seems long and specific, but this is a big commitment to me and really can't afford to get out of it as easy if I had a cash flow.

admin answers:

Kia resale has improved quite a bit over the last couple of years.

I doubt your going to get any serious cash back offers on the new Optima. With the current pricing and the stellar reviews its getting and given that its on the same platform as the 2011 Hyundai Sonata which has been very popular since it came out, I suspect Kia will not have any problem moving the Optima.

As to the turbo, I haven't seen anything definitive on when the Optima turbos will reach dealers.

If you like flowing vs angular styling you should look at the Sonata. Its the same platform as the Kia and their turbos are already on the dealer lots so you can get an idea of the performance. I would expect Hyundai would hold value a little better than Kia as well. Hyundai had 24% growth in sales last year. A huge chunk of that was the Sonata.
