Questions About Acura Mdx Mpg

Joseph asks…

Acura MDX MPG Trip Computer?

I have 2001 Acura MDX, on my Trip Computer screen I see how many mile I get per Gallon (mpg) this number changes all the sometimes it gives me 23mpg, and it drops to 16mps, 10mpg, and sometimes 4mpg, when I reset the screen, it gives me 99mpg, and it keeps going down again, any help with this problem????????....thanks

admin answers:

It's your instantaneous gas mileage. You can use this to your advantage though, the car is telling you how many mpg's you get for the speed your going. So figure out what speeds get you the best gas mileage and stick to them! I'm sure it has a mode that gives you average mpg, but i'd rather know my instantaneous so when im gonna be driving a while at the same speed, i can adjust speed to get the best mpg's!

2008 Acura MDX fuel economy?

We recently purchased a new 2008 Acura MDX. Over the first 400 or so miles, we're averaging 10-11 mpg in fuel economy. We drive in mostly urban conditions and some highway use, but when we bought it we were told it got 15 in city and 20 in highway. So given our driving thus far, we were expecting more like 16 or 17. Did they just lie to us about the actual fuel economy? Anyone else have this issue? Is fuel economy worse when you first purchase the car?

admin answers:

The Environmental Protection Agency's MPG rating for your car is indeed 15 city / 20 highway: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008selemodelf.jsp?year=2008&make=Acura

(Usually the EPA rating is indeed a bit on the high side.)

You might want to check your tire pressure. If they are underinflated, it will cost you 1-2mpg easily.

New cars also have a break-in period. You should see a 1mpg improvement once the moving parts in the drivetrain are broken in after the first 1000 miles or so.

And of course driving habits affect fuel economy immensely-- Jackrabbit starts, 70mph highway speeds and hard braking will all cost you gas mileage.

Questions About Acura Mdx Reviews

Linda asks…

Reviews on the Acura MDX?

Does anyone have a new Acura MDX? If so, what do you think?

admin answers:

According to MSN Autos, Acura MDX is "one of our top-rated SUVs, the MDX is a well-designed car-based SUV that can hold seven passengers. Ride and handling are competent. The interior is flexible, with a third-row seat that folds flat into the cargo floor."
Consumer Reports add that "the MDX is redesigned for 2007 and feels more agile than its predecessor. It is also quieter, and the 300-hp V6 makes it quicker."
Why buy new, when you can buy slightly used a save a bundle? Check http://www.motobidia.com/index.asp when you're ready to buy. You will find national selection, wholesale prices, free shipping withing the continental USA, and free vehicle history reports on all listings.

David asks…

BMW x5 versus Acura MDX versus Audi Q7?

I have been looking around the market for a new SUV. I would love to get an x5, but a friend of mine that owns an MDX says that it is much better. Another friend of mine that owns a Q7 says that the Q7 is better. They both say that it has a horrible ride, no off-road capabilities whatsoever, uncomfortable seats, and the fact that it has an interior that is so boring, you might as well be sitting in someone's ear. They get all their "feedback" from watching Top Gear's review of the BMW x6. I beg to differ. I think the ride is just like in any other car. I also own a 2003 535i, and it is great car. We also both have different definitions of off-road. They think that the car should be able to go over 4 foot boulders. I just need something that can go over a little ice and snow. I would love to get an x5 but am having some doubts about the car because of their comments. So, in your opinion, what is better. An x5, an MDX, or a Q7?

admin answers:

If you need something for ice and snow X5-X6-Q7-MDX are all bad options. Get a 5 series with x-drive or an audi in all-road version: less expensive, lighter (so more effective and safe on snow and ice).

And btw: even if we are speaking about real off-road the X5-X6-Q7-MDX are bad ideas. These cars are made to show off, nothing more. Here in Europe 80% of them are driven by upper class soccer moms that feel the need to stuck the traffic in our narrow roads more effectively when they bring their kids to school. (the other 20% are mobsters)

Joseph asks…

Porsche vs. Acura?

I am considering getting either the Porsche Cayenne (basic model) or the Acura MDX (basic model). Which of the two is a better buy? I have been reading reviews for these two suv's... but I can't seem to pick wich one is best. Which one would you buy?

p.s. These two are the only suv's I am considering
both are the 2008 models

admin answers:

Trendy people go for Porsche
Logical people go for Acura
