Is Saab XWD equal to or better than Subaru AWD?
I'm researching Saab XWD compared to Subaru AWD. I've read that the XWD is similar to Mitsubishi super active yaw control or Honda/Acura SH-AWD. When it comes down to the best, in terms of Saab XWD or Subaru AWD, which is better. I own a FWD Saab and want another but I like Subaru too. I live in a state where it snows and want the security of owning a AWD vehicle. I didn't have any trouble with the Saab. It handles snow and ice very well.
No. I am not confused. Just asking which is better. I've seen Saab XWD owners say they love their cars in snow as well as Subaru owners. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_XWD compares SH-AWD and active yaw control, not me.
admin answers:
1) Not many AWD systems can be compared with SH-AWD in the Legend, because it also has 4 wheel steering which messes things up
2)Saab XWD systems(most of them) are based on the so called 'Haldex''.This is not really a 4wd system,it just has multiple clutches electronically controlled.
3)Subaru 4WD is evolved into demanding racing,so to me,it's one of the best along with Mitsubishi
4)The Active Yaw Control is a bit different than a 4WD system,it controls other things, its not a AWD system itself
5)If you are confused,Active Yaw Control and SH-AWD can be compared with Haldex
Verdict:Subaru is best, difference among the systems will become apparent in bad conditions, like really wet roads or even better, snow.Subaru AWD is by far better in SUVs.If you won't go off-road,Saab is already great.

What SUV will fit 3 car seats?
Currently have a Pontiac Torrent which will NOT even CLOSE fit 3 car seats, may have sold it for tomorrow and we are now vehicle shopping and wow I didnt realize how much of a headache I would get -- My husband thinks getting a SUV with a 3rd row (such as an Acura MDX, GM Acadia, Ford Explorer) we will not be able to get the 3rd car seat in the 3rd row without taking the 2 car seats in the second row out (to fold the seat forward) - and I definitely am not reinstalling one or two carseats everytime I need to leave the house with 3 children under 3 .... We are not even sure if this is how the second row works on vehicles with 3rd rows, or if 3 seats will fit in just the second row (as we know 3 definitely wouldnt on my car).
Someone with 3 carseats PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! Please clear this up for me! - Do 3 car seats fit in the second row of your vehicle, what do you own, how is it, and if you have to put one car seat in the 3rd row, how do you access it - do you have to remove anything in the second row to fold the seat forward????
PS I REALLY dont want a minivan and we cant even really have one as we park in the back alley and live in Canada where it snows lots from Oct-March and I need a vehicle with AWD or 4x4

Take the car seats with you when you go car shopping
David asks…
which suv will fit my needs?
my mind is going crazy wondering what vehicle i should get? im looking for a used suv just because i have a dog and i live in washington state & it snows up here so i need a suv thats AWD.
heres what im thinking of getting:
- 2004 lexus rx300
or
- 2005 acura mdx
if you had these past vehicles or you know any reasonable answers for any please let me know. it would be a bigg help!! thanks.
admin answers:
Well you should get almost any mid-sized SUV thats AWD or 4x4, but to be honest, you live in washington state so im sure it snows a lot up there, so i wouldn't get a luxury SUV like a Lexus or Benz or anything like that, just be to much of a chance of getting into fender benders or wrecks, plus the insurance won't be as much so stay away from the luxury SUVs
Thomas asks…
What SUV should we get?
We have been considering such vehicles as:
Land Rover LR3
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Acura MDX
Buick Enclave
Audi Q7
Volvo XC90
Lexus GX470
Mercedes Benz ML500
Mercedes bend GL450
Volkswagen Touareg 2
We want something luxurious.
-Not too sluggish
-4 wheel drive, or a good AWD system, sometimes we have to drive through a lot of snow and over ice (good old Chicago) and sometimes we venture off the road (not extreme stuff)
-a 3rd row seat is not necessary but nice
We've been having a really hard time figuring out which ones we should go test-drive.
Oh yeah, we don't want to spend more than $50,000 and we don't mind buying used.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I would recommend checking out the MDX, ML500, GL450 and Audi Q7. The MDX gets better mileage than most other SUVs and the handling is pretty good. The V6 version of the GL450 also gets good gas mileage too.
I've heard that VWs arent that reliable, so i wouldnt recommend the Touareg. Land Rovers are alright, but they use up a lot of gas. I actually like the XC90, but i've heard that it costs a lot to fix. The GX470 is a nice SUV, but again, fuel economy. The Buick has some kind of transmission issue (its hesitant to downshift or something like that)
