Questions About Acura Parts Now

Robert asks…

I connect my acura rxs battery incorrectly, now how and what do i need to need part it?

i need to know what parts i may have damaged and will have to replace?

admin answers:

Did you try to start it? If you did, anything electrical may be fried, and you'd have to replace everything. All harnesses, power modules, possibly even the starter.

Charles asks…

cannot find Acura EL parts??help!!?

i own a 97 Acura EL
i tried to find cold air intake or short ramp for it,
and i tried to find projector headlight for my HID, since now its glaring everywhere,
and i just can't any of these for my EL
anyone know where i should go to find them? thanks

admin answers:

You answerers are idiots. The EL is the Acura version of the Honda Civic, and is not sold in the United States. 1.6 EL is the Civic up to 2000 (D16 Civic) and the 1.7 EL is the 2001+ (D17 Civic)
More info:

Anyways, as for basic performance parts, I'm not sure which specific engine you have, but open your hood and look on the front of the engine torwards the bottom and there will be a little plate with a stamp on it that should say D16something.

Then go look up 1997 Honda Civic parts (sedan), and match up your engine code with the parts available. Theres a D16y8 which is what I'm guessing you have and there are TONS of parts available for it.

I'm pretty sure you wont find projector headlights for it, but atleast there are intakes, headers, exhausts, etc available for it. Also, springs and other suspension parts should work too.

Acura CL 3.2L engine replacement due to blown head gaskets and/or warped heads- now what?

Okay I bought a used 2003 Acura CL 3.2L car with 105,000 miles two months ago from a private seller. I point-blank asked the seller if it had ever been in a wreck, and he very firmly and emphatically said NO it had never been wrecked. Well it took my neighbor only 30 seconds to determine that it actually had been wrecked fairly severely: Both front fenders had been replaced. He detected damage to the bracing in front of the radiator. I figured out that the front bumper assembly including the fog-light pockets were not even from a 2003 but from either a 2001 or 2002. I paid $7,500 for the car. Within two weeks the side windows severely malfunctioned. The driver's side came off the track and went up crooked, and the right side fell freely down while I was driving, seriously scaring me. It cost $1,100 in parts and labor for a mechanic to rebuild both side window mechanisms. The next thing to go was a rear tire. Both rears had been run flat according to evidence by a tire company, and the fronts were marginal, so another $558 for four new tires. Now I have $9,000 in this car.

So..this past Sunday I was driving down the freeway and the A/C started blowing warm air. I kept driving. No lights came on. The temperature gauge I failed to look at. In my mind I had an A/C problem, not an engine problem. About 20 miles later it started pinging and loosing power badly. I suddenly noticed the engine temperature gauge completely pegged. I barely made it off the freeway. Result: The shop put two gallons of coolant in the radiator and it all ran into the crank-case. They said I had two options: Repair (min. $2,000) or replace ($2,800) with an Acura 3.2 engine they found with only 1,000 miles on it. I immediately saw the wisdom in replacing the engine.

Now they tell me that they found out that the reason it overheated was due to a crack in the radiator causing coolant loss.

I have two questions: 1) Is there not a low coolant indicator light on an Acura? I know my Pontiac had one, and many, many times it came on during the 208,000 miles and 13 years that I drove it. I saw no low coolant light on even after I noticed the temperature gauge pegged.

2) Should I replace the radiator? What would be the benefits of that? The shop is already saying that the dented radiator may be a problem for them.

Any other insights would be appreciated. I am in too far to not repair this car.
For this engine they found that has only 1,000 miles, the shop also wants to replace the water pump, thermostat, timing belt, serpentine belt, spark plugs and wires. And no doubt the list will grow. This is because they don't know how long it has been sitting. I suppose that makes sense for the most part, especially since they can replace those items quickly (and cheaply) before they install the engine, where things are easily accessible. That's the way they explained it to me. Concur?

No coolant warning light on the acuras it could be possible that the ac compressor locked up which is common on those cars and the loss of power was from the engine tryin to keep goin with the seized compressor which could have also caused the overheating i would get the new motor and make sure it has some kind of warranty and documentation to prove its only 1k miles the radiator is something u will need to use your best judgement also have the dealer look up the vin number to see what services and recalls have been done to the transmission since those are huge problems in those cars

John asks…

Acura lied and stole from me...now what do I do?

My low beam headlight stopped working. Tried to replace the bulb but it's an HID D2R which is a pricy part ($120-130 a bulb; depending where you shop). I called Acura the guy said it could either be the inverter or bulb. He said for them to check it its $110, for 1 bulb $120, for the assembly piece not including the bulb $200; all that is not including labor. I told him it was too pricy. He gave me his # and told me to call him later that day that he might be able to help me away from the shop. I called and he went to my house; he really didn't do much but look it over with a flashlight and ask who was home; kinda freaked me out.
A couple weeks pass and I call him to see if it was the parts he could help me with or the installation. He then told me to go to the dealership and he'll check it for free. I went and he told to play along as if we were cousins. I left my car so he could check and let me know what parts I actually needed. I went back an hour later he gave me a print out saying I needed the inverter and assembly piece. I asked what about the bulb...he said don't worry that he had one for me. He gave me a price between $500-700.

Again I needed more $$. I wanted a 2nd opinion cause I am a female tend to get bs’d a lot.

I took it to a friend of mine that is a mechanic. He took my car apart he was tripping out cause the high beam bulb was loose and the screws were missing from the low beam. 1st he wanted to see if the bulb actually worked, when he pulled it out there wasn’t a bulb.
He asked if I ever had a bulb (YES) and who it was that touched my car (ACURA).

He put a temp bulb (so I won’t be driving w/1 headlight) that is not an HID and it works.

So if the bulb he put in works why wouldn’t my bulb work? The guys from Acura said I didn’t need a bulb just the inverter and assembly piece.

My question is…how do I go about presenting this to Acura? Apparently the guys from Acura kept my bulb. Don’t really know why…maybe to make some extra cash or they thought I was going to go back their without getting a 2nd opinion.

I feel like they tried to take advantage of me because I am female; I want to get to the bottom of this and get my car taken care of.

Do I go and present this to Acura? Should my mechanic friend? What info should I tell them? Who should I talk to? What should I take?

Please help

admin answers:

Call the service manager or the dealership owner/manager and lodge a complaint. Go on the Acura website and lodge a complaint with them about the dealership. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER let someone you do not know offer to do "work on the side". You are very lucky something really bad did not happen to you. It sounds like he took the bulb out and dismantled it on purpose. I would maybe even lodge a complaint with the police. Find a trusted male friend that can go with you to service appointments.
