John asks…

2012 acura rdx v6 or 2011 infiniti ex35?

Which is more reliable, which is a better buy? Which one is for everyday driving?

BTW acura is coming out with a v6 rdx in march

This shouldn't even be debatable. The Infiniti EX35 is by far superior to the Acura RDX. Both compete in the same segment but you cant really compare the prestige factor of a Lexus & an Infiniti with an Acura. All of them produce great reliable vehicle's but the Acura fails to come to par with the EX35 in terms of power, performance, design, luxury & refinement. Don't get me wrong I'm sure the RDX is a good car but when you put up against the EX35 it simply fails to compare. For starters the RDX only composes a 2.3 liter engine producing a fairly anemic 240 Horsepower while the Ex35 composes a standard & more powerful 3.5 liter V6 emitting 297 Horsepower. In fact the EX35 is the class leader in terms of standard horsepower compared to the BMW X3, Mercedes GLK, Audi Q5 & Lexus RX. Infiniti comes from a pure sports oriented background which is why it is considered to be the main alternative to German engineering, not only that but it has also been the only manufacturer on the market that has been able to come to par with the excellent driving dynamics of a BMW hence the reason why their main rival is mainly the Bimmer. The most obvious difference between Acura & Infiniti is that the Acura is a Luxury sport "appearance" car while the Infiniti is a Luxury sport "performance" car. In terms of reliability both cars are great however in terms of maintenance you will notice that the Acura is much more affordable to maintain compared to its cross country rivals like the Lexus & Infiniti nevertheless Japanese Luxury in general has always been more affordable to maintain & less demanding compared to their German rivals. If your looking for affordability the Acura might do you justice but if your looking for a true Japanese performance luxury car then look no further then the Infiniti. Lexus is essentially the Japanese Mercedes the same way the Infiniti is the Japanese BMW, however the Acura seems to be more so of a substitute rather then an alternative to many of its competitors.

Maria asks…

Certified pre-owned Acura RDX w/ SH-AWD?

What year did Acura start offering the "SH" (special handling) feature along with its All Wheel Drive? I'm interested in a certified pre-owned RDX, with low mileage. I found a couple in my area, but Neither one of the (2008) cars mentioned having the "SH" feature. (The RDX is an SUV. SUV = Sports Utility Vehicle). Is it possible that the Special Handling wasn't introduced till 2011???
From what I read, Not ALL RDXs come with the Special Handling (SH) feature. Unless the road-researching author of the article was mistaken.....
And thanks - I'm very glad to know that the SH was introduced in 2007! That would seem to raise the likelihood that I'll find one with that feature when I go shopping for a certified, pre-owned, low mileage RDX.

admin answers:

Acura's AWD is called Super Handling AWD, SH-AWD for short, and was introduced and came standard on the 2007 RDX, not in 2011. All RDXs has always come standard with SH-AWD, so the cars ads you looked at maybe didn't mention it since it's standard.

Edit: I think I know what you're talking about. I bet you've seen articles that say the 2010-2011 RDX comes with FWD, but optional SH-AWD. The two drivetrains were introduced for the refreshed 2010+ RDX. The 2007-2009 never had an option for FWD, all of them came with SH-AWD.
